Drill Rig Types

Track Mounted DTH

Using down the hole hammer technology, this type of drill allows us to get more places safely than our standard truck mounted drills.  They are capable of drilling hole diameters of 4.5" to 6.5" at a depth of up to 100 feet.  These drills also possess the ability to drill any angle from vertical to nearly horizontal..

Truck Mounted DTH

Using DTH technology, these drills are the work horses of our fleet, perfect for flat bench drilling on a daily basis.  These drills are set up to drill holes with a diameter of 4.5" to 6.5".  They can drill over 300 feet deep if needed.  Some of these drills are capable of drilling angle holes up to 30 degrees.

Top Percussion

Using top percussion technology, these drills are more nimble and can handle uneven terrain easier than DTH drills..  They can drill holes in sizes 3.5" to 4.5".. These drills excel on shallow benches, as the precision of the bore hole trajectory is more difficult to achieve with increased depths.

Down The Hole  (DTH) or Top Percussion Technology

DTH or Down The Hole hammer and top percussion drills each have their own unique  capabilities.  Down the hole hammers are better with more fractured material, voids and seams.  DTH also performs better in giving our customers a more precise bore hole trajectory at depths greater then 35 feet..  DTH is best for hole sizes 4.5" and up.  DTH drilling is not as fuel efficient as other technology, however..
Top Percussion drilling is a very efficient form of drilling for fuel usage.  The down side of Top Percussion is that the hole size is limited to 5" and below.  Additionally, the deeper the hole the less efficient and less precise the bore trajectory becomes.  At General Drilling we strive to give our customers the best product and drill choices to meet all their needs.
